Encampment High School senior Brett Ralston was awarded the Daniels Fund Grant last week.
According to danielsfund.org, “The Daniels Scholarship Program is a four-year annually-renewable college scholarship for graduating high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional character, leadership, and a commitment to serving their communities.” It has, “surpassed $520 million in grants and scholarships since 2000.
Daniels is known for building one of the nation’s earliest cable television systems in Casper and was an influential businessman and community leader in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
Ralston received the grant after completing an intensive two hour online application, two written essays and interviews by two committees at the University of Wyoming.
Ralston has applied to the University of Washington as well as the University of Wyoming and is planning to study medicine. Ralston is currently also enrolled in the SCWEMS Emergency Medical Responder class and is grateful for the grant because it will help him realize his dream of learning to help people through medicine.
