The Encampment Tigers Track and Field team is off and running toward their 2015 season with 21 students coming out for track this year.
That is the most that coach Kegan Willford has seen in his time there. " We've had 15-16 come out before but we've never had this many kids come out for track," said Willford.
Alyssa Barkhurst is returning as a junior. She was state champion last year in the long jump and broke the school record with 16 feet 2 1/2 inches. Barkhurst placed third in the 100-meter dash.
McKenzie Powell placed sixth at state last season in the 400-meter dash and seventh place in the triple jump.
The girls team ended the 2014 season with a 10th place finish at state.
There are many of new faces on the team, with only five members of the team having been to state before, but coach Willford sees it as an opportunity to grow and try new things. "There's a lot of them where we can mold them into different things and find out where they want to try different events," said Willford of his plan to let the students experiment and find their own niche event.
The Tiger's first meet is on March 21, in Casper, or in Big Piney on March 27, depending on the weather.
