Activities to meet needs, interests

At Deseret Health and Rehab, quality of life is an important concern. We strive to meet our residents needs by supplying an Activity Program that meets these needs that is based on residents’ interests in activities that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. Offering such a program, allows residents to achieve a higher level of self-esteem which enables them to perform their activities of daily living at a higher level. Further, it provides residents with continuing contact with the community because of the many volunteers that assist residents as they enjoy activities at the facility.

Games provide laughter and socialization with other residents and are a big component of the program. On Sunday afternoon, six residents played Bingo with Pat Rust winning. On Monday afternoon, five residents played Yahtzee with Elaine Burge winning. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, residents enjoyed Wii Bowling. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, resident played Bingo, winning quarters, candy, soda, and prizes. On Wednesday, Carol Higby and Russell Cox won Four Corners, and Charlotte Gibbons won the Blackout. Our volunteers were Sue Bartlett, Dawna Erickson, Gloria Rakness, and Lila Worden. On Friday, Truth Karstoft and Elaine Burge won Four Corners, and Nadine Caleb won the Blackout. Our volunteers were Sue Bartlett, Dawna Erickson, Gloria Rakness, and Lila Worden, again. On Saturday afternoon, residents played Blackjack.

On Sunday afternoon, we had church with Sharon Hughes from the Abundant Life Fellowship leading the service, and Doris Davis played the keyboard with traditional religious music.

On Tuesday afternoon, four residents went on a Van Ride up the Snowy Range Road to the snow gate. They were accompanied by Sue Morawski and Kathy McMorrow.

Some very important activities occur on Wednesday morning every week. Volunteers offer Hair Care and Nail Care to residents. Six residents had their hair done, and nine residents had their finger nails done. Our volunteers were Janet Kerpan, Lynda Healey, and Connie Patterson.

On Thursday afternoon, residents designed and decorated three bulletin boards for March with the assistance of Kathy McMorrow.

We always need small stuffed animals and other prizes for Bingo. We greatly appreciate the continued support of our volunteers throughout the week. They are an integral part of the Activity Program. Anyone wishing to become a volunteer, please contact Tom Mansfield, Activity Director, at the facility.
