The Encampment Boys Varsity
basketball team had the eye of the
tiger when they hosted the Baggs
Rattlers last Friday night. The Tigers
took the win 54-47 in a game
that had the crowd on its feet several
times. The game may not have
made much of a difference concerning
the Tigers or Rattlers placement
at regionals, but the Tigers chalked
up a moral and motivational victory.
Head coach Clint Bromley hopes the
win will provide his team with the
confidence necessary to carry his
Tigers through the regional tournament
and onwards to another state
tournament in Casper. "We wanted
to come out and prove we could play
with them," Bromley said.
The Tiger's strategy was to hold
the Rattlers to their average (points
per game) and for the Tigers to meet
their own average, Bromley said.
Luke Pantle led the way with 17
points, went 3 for 3 from the line,
with four assists two steals and
two blocks. Keegan Johnson did his
part with 15 points and 6 rebounds,
also going 3 for 4 from the line. Guy
Erickson had 10 points, went 6 of
8 from the line and brought down
eight rebounds to keep the ball in
the Tiger's paws. Gage Bartlett
added six points and went 2 of 4
from the arc.
"We had really good bench play
from Johnson and Bartlett that
helped seal this victory," Bromley
said. Johnson hit 12 of his 15 shots
in the first half and Bartlett had
his two huge 3 pointers in the third
quarter to give the Tigers momentum
and seal the lead.
"I think we are peaking at the
right time and everything is starting
to come together the way we
want it to this time of year," Bromley
said.
The Tigers will face the third
ranked Dubois Rams in Casper for
the start of regional playoffs on
Thursday at 7 p.m.
