Bradley Bifano uses a 2 on 1 tilt to earn nearfall against Phillip Padilla of Natrona County in his consolation semi-finals match. Bradley eventually won the match by a fall in 1:31. He finished the tournament with another pin to claim the 3rd place medal in the 132 weight class.
The Saratoga Panther wrestlers took third place at the Dogger Invite in Lingle, placing all but one of their grapplers.
Daynon Mowry earned wrestler of the week with his first place finish in the 126-pound weight class.
"Daynon had a good weekend," head coach Jared Mason said. Saturday, Mowry was a little groggy, but bounced back and dominated Chase Lovercheck, of Southeast in a one minute 13 second fall.
"Daynon is a quality wrestler," Mason said. "When he is on, he is on."
Thatcher Spiering had had a dominating performance in the 145-pound weight class, with a technical fall of 15 points against Ruger Lewis, of Burns/Pine Bluffs.
Spiering pinned all of his opponents this past weekend. His final match was a fall against Scottsbluff, Neb., opponent Elijah Blanco, in 1:36.
Chaze Wiant and Bradley Bifano had second and third place finishes respectively in the 138-pound weight class.
Both boys lost to Todd Walker, of Lingle, who went on to be champion of his weight class.
"Walker will be one the wrestlers will face at regionals and this gives Wiant and Bifano a chance to work on the styles and be better on their feet," Mason said.
Wiant was 0-0 in the first period with no take downs.
Bifano is getting better on his feet, Mason said. "He had a nice take down this weekend."
Jaxon King took third place in 113-pound weight class. In the third place match, King won a technical fall over Gavin Garner, of Torrington, 19-1. "Jaxon wrestled well," Mason said. In the semi-final King lost 5-4. "We got our hands on a good quality kid and Jaxon wrestled him tough."
Thomas Ingraham placed fourth, with Hunter Mason placing fifth in the 132-pound weight class. This was the deepest weight class, Mason said.
Ingraham and H. Mason had to wrestler each other for the consolation round with Ingraham winning by decision 6-2.
In the third place match, Ingraham lost to Trenton Smith, of Wright, a grappler that he had won against the weekend before in Pavillion.
Marshal Hill placed sixth in the tournament. "He got a few pins and gained some confidence," Mason said.
Wyatt Carricato, who competes in the 126-pound weight class did not place.
Thursday, the Panthers will travel to Hanna. Mason said that Rawlins and Laramie will probably not participate, but this gives the Hanna/Elk Mountain/Medicine Bow a chance to wrestle at home.
Friday morning, the Panthers travel to Cokeville for a dual tournament. The team has not competed in Cokeville before and Mason is looking forward to seeing how his team fairs against another team.
Mason explained in the dual team, teams are matched up, while in tournament play, they are drawn by weight bracket.
The meet at HEM begins at 5:30 pm.
