New councilman sworn in

Gary Stull added to Encampment Town Council, Salisibury and Hamilton renew

Gary Stull was sworn in to the Encampment Town Council as were returning councilwoman Cindy Hamilton and Mayor Gregg Salisbury at Thursday night's meeting of the Encampment Town Council.

Major actions at the meeting included the approval of a contract for Carbon County Council of Governments grant funding for the replacements of fire hydrants and valves, and the second reading of Title 9.08 for the town.

Title 9.08 is a revision of the Alcoholic Beverages Amendment. Changes in the amendment state applicants for an annual liquor license will have to publish their application in a newspaper for two consecutive weeks. The current code requires four consecutive weeks of publication. The expiration date for annual liquor licenses would change from April 1 to June 17. The revised code also adds definitions and restrictions for malt beverage permits, catering permits and temporary dispensing room permits. In Article IV of the revised code many of the restrictions on hours of operation are repealed.

An addition to the revised code states that the police may close a facility until the following day if the licensee fails to maintain order at the establishment.

Financial actions at the council meeting included approving the purchase of a taser by the police department, approving $1,750 in prize money for the Winter Carnival, contracting the band for the 2015 Music in the Park event, memberships to the Platte Valley Arts Council and the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Possible litigation by the town of Encampment was discussed in a closed executive session.

The next regular meeting of the Encampment Town Council will be 7 p.m., Feb. 12 at the Encampment Town Hall.
