Local libraries to host snow programs this month

The Saratoga and Encampment Libraries are sponsoring the program “Snowbound? Snow Problem!” which offers activities for children 0-12.

Today, the children will be making snow dough at the library, where they can mold, sculpt and squash the dough.

In Saratoga the program is from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and in Encampment the program is from 4 to 5 p.m.

“Pop Open a Book” is the theme for young readers 5-12 years of ages, who are invited to open one good book after another and enjoy popcorn while reading. From 4 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 14, the Encampment Library will host “Pop Open a Book”, and from 4 to 5 p.m. in Jan. 28, the Saratoga Library will hold their version of “Pop Open a Book”.

“Snowman Bread” is the theme for Jan. 16 at the Saratoga Library in the “Snowbound? Snow Problem!” program. Children 5 to 12 years of age will learn how to make warm snowman-shaped bread. The fun begins at noon and while the bread bakes, children will make a recycled snowman tag to wrap things up in.

On Jan. 21, children from age 0 to 12 will make snowman-shaped bread from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Encampment Library. They will also enjoy a snowball game.

For adults, the Encampment Library is holding their book discussion group from 7 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 15.

The book, “Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him” by former Captain Luis Carlos Montalva and Bret Witter, is about a combat veteran who suffered from the physical and mental wounds of war and was in constant pain. Tuesday, a golden retriever was trained to assist the disabled, but had issues of his own. The story is about the love between a man and a dog and how they healed each other.

To reserve a copy of the book, call Dawna Martin at 307-327-5775 at the Encampment Library.
