Serving the Platte Valley since 1888

Give the senior center a try

There were four here for Bridge this week.

We will be open on New Year’s Day as usual. We will be serving grilled ham and cheese sandwich and tomato soup. The rest of the meal is still up in the air, but it will be good.

We would like to thank Jane Johnston for the beautiful flowers she sent for all the tables. We did have a drawing to see who would get to take a boot home and enjoy them because we are going to be gone for five days now and I was afraid they would be dead when we returned. So there were eight people who took them home with the understanding they had to bring the boot back. They were the most awesome boot vases and they want to store them until next year. But we did want to thank you for the flowers.

Also, we don’t say it enough but we would like to thank the Rawlins National Bank for donating the cakes for all our birthday dinners. And also to Connie McGuire for the lovely flowers she donates to all the people at the birthday table. You are both so thoughtful, and we really do appreciate it.

We want to send our sincere sympathy to the families of Keith Annon, Pat Faust and Peter Larsen. These three all passed away this week and they will be missed by everyone who knew them. It has been a very tough week on the Valley.

We would like to invite anyone 60 or older to come give us a try. You will not be disappointed. We have good meals at a very reasonable price and you get to visit with some very interesting people. We also have the bus that can come to your home and pick you up. It will pick you up and take you to the store, doctor appointments here in town, or just to go visit someone. The charge for the ride is just 50 cents suggested. So that is even a bargain.

I just turned old enough to come up here and so I know who is old enough so please come and join us. We have to keep this program going, and by getting our count up will help. We do play bingo on Tuesdays if we have enough that will stay to play. We have Bridge on Mondays and they are always looking for more players. After the first of the year we will start having movie day once a month. There are a couple of people who would like to stay and play 31, so if you are interested we would love to have you join us.

Happy New Year to everyone from those here at the center.
