Glode takes mayoral seat, Faust and Raymer win council
In the hours after the polls closed, mayoral candidates Ed Glode and Don Sherrod met for drinks at the Hotel Wolf.
Though they knew only one of them could win the mayoral seat, both candidates were supportive of each other.
It was Ed Glode who ended up taking 53.77 percent of the 703 votes cast in Saratoga. Glode beat Sherrod by a margin of 137 votes.
"I am elated, I am excited" Glode said after the results were announced. "I look forward to doing the job."
Glode's victory was anticipated by many. After a commanding victory in the primaries, carried that support into the general election.
Both Glode and Sherrod said they enjoyed the campaigning process. They agreed it was fun to meet with some of Saratoga's residents for the first time, and catch up with others they had not talked to in a while.
"It's fun to interact with a town like this," Glode said. "I love the people here, so I had a good time."
Current mayor John Zeiger met with the mayor-elect on Nov. 6 in order to fill Glode in on the mayoral duties. In a post on the town of Saratoga's Facebook page, Zeiger said, "We are both dedicated to see that this will go smoothly for the good of the town. In fact, he plans on attending the next council meeting to help present to the council information on the updating of the flood plain maps and steps the town needs to consider, to make this project more successful when working with FEMA. I will also invite him to take part in any meetings that may come up so he is on top of and updated on issues and concerns."
Additionally, Zeiger said he pledges to help Glode in anyway he can in order to see the town move forward.
"I will miss serving the town in the position of Mayor, but look forward to see where the younger council moves the town," he said.
It is unclear at this time how many of the 84 write-in votes Zegier received. Zeiger ran a write-in campaign after losing in the primaries by nine votes.
Sherrod said even though he lost, he intends to be active in town government. While campaigning, Sherrod was made privy to many of the issues Saratoga's residents had with the town, and he plans to share that information with Glode.
"I have every intention of doing what I have been doing," Sherrod said. "Eddie [Glode] and I intend to get together and pitch in and see what things we can get done."
Town Council
Will Faust and Richard Raymer will take Steve Wilcoxson's and Mike McWain's seats on the Saratoga Town Council. Faust received 485 votes which put him 128 votes ahead of Raymer.
Faust had the largest margin of victory in a Saratoga council race since 2002 when Ken Collamer had 250 more votes than second place Steve Wilcoxson.
Raymer was at the Wolf with Sherrod and Glode when the results were announced. He was happy about the results of the town council race, and he said he is looking forward to working alongside Glode and Faust.
"I would have been thrilled to work with either [Sherrod or Glode]," he said.
Glode, Faust and Raymer are all members of the water and sewer joint powers board. With existing council member Sue Howe, sitting on the board, likely most, if not all, of the newly elected members will remove themselves from the board. The water and sewer board meets tonight at 6 p.m. at Saratoga Town Hall.
The new elected officials will assume office at the first town council meeting on Jan. 6, 2015.
