Voters will have a chance to hear and compare candidates for contested Saratoga, county and state senate offices tonight starting at 6 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center, according to a press release form the Valley Service Organization (VSO),which sponsors the forum.
VSO member Sue Jones, coordinator for the event, said all candidates for the contested offices have been invited.
Those indicating they plan to attend were Don Sherrod and Ed Glode for mayor; Richard Raymer and Will Faust for town council; Jerry Colson for sheriff and both candidates for state senate – Larry Hicks and Linda Fleming.
Jared Frakes, who is also running for sheriff, stated he will not be able to attend, as did incumbent mayor John Zieger, who is running a write-in campaign for the mayoral race.
Candidates for the Carbon County Fire District, if approved, will also be at the forum. The fire protection district is on the ballot for Nov. 4.
The Fire District, which is for residents living outside of incorporated towns, is on the out-of-town ballots only.
There has been much controversy and confusion about the fire district plan of late. Homer Beach, Mike Morris and Jim Piche, who are also candidates of the proposed fire protection board of directors will be attending. Eight people are running for the board, with three to be elected.
During the forum, each candidate will be given two minutes for an introduction. Kassey Westring is the moderator for the town candidates, and Jones is the moderator for the rest of the program.
