Jacqueline E. Smith

A service for Jacqueline E. Smith will be held at St. Ann's Parish, 218 W. Spring Avenue, Saratoga, at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 followed by the burial of ashes at the Saratoga Cemetery and a reception at the Saratoga Inn, 601 Pic Pike Road.

Jacqueline E. Smith was born May 12, 1929, to Dr. Karl E. and Louise Krueger in Omaha, Neb. When Dr. Krueger completed medical school the family moved to Rock Springs, Wyo. Jacqueline graduated from the Rock Springs High School in May of 1947, and entered Mills College, Oakland, Calif., in September of 1947. Two years later, in the September of 1949, Jacqueline transferred to the University of Wyoming and received a B.S. Degree in Home Economics in the Class of 1951. After graduation, Jacquie taught school in Superior, Wyo. On May 25th, 1952, she married Thomas S. Smith, son of Thomas C. and Annie Smith, also of Rock Springs. Shortly after marriage the couple accepted employment with the Government of American Samoa, Tom was hired as an accountant and Jacqueline as a school teacher. They departed the United States on June 7, 1952. During the subsequent four-year period Tom advanced to the position of Director of Budget and Finance for the Government of American Samoa while Jacquie continued to teach. Upon completion of their contract with the Samoan Government in May of 1956, Jacqueline and Thomas traveled around the world, with their daughter Jane, who had been born in American Samoa on March 19, 1953. They returned to the United State in August of 1956 at which time Jacqueline began teaching at the University of Wyoming Preschool and Tom entered the University of Wyoming Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor Degree in law, in June of 1960. Jacquie was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was an active member and served as president of the House Board. She was an active member of the St. Lawrence O'Toole Altar & Rosary. She was a 50-year member of the Laramie Chapter of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Chapter W.

She was a docent at the University of Wyoming Art Museum and served on the National Advisory Board for the Museum from 2000 to 2007. She served on the University of Wyoming Campus Advisory Board. Tom and Jacquie served as the co-chairs of the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Foundation La Grande Fleur in 1998. Jacquie volunteered as a docent at the Saratoga Museum. Tom and Jacquie were members of the Laramie Country Club and the Old Baldy Country Club of Saratoga. In addition to their daughter, Jane, they have a son Karl, born on May 31, 1957 and a son David, born on Sept. 27, 1959. Jane lives in Hudson, N.Y. and works in New York City. Karl lives and works in Denver, Colo.,and David lives and works in Seattle, Wash. Karl has three children, James, Katelyn and Annie, and David has two children, Nikko and Telik.

Tom retired from the active practice of law in December of 1994, and Tom and Jacquie moved to Saratoga. Tom died in Laramie on April 9, 2008 and in October of 2012, Jacquie moved to Denver to be closer to her children. She passed away at her Holly Creek Retirement Community home surrounded by her children on Sept. 10, 2014 at 11:43 p.m.
