Weiland resigns from SCWEMS board

Godfrey approved at CCVC representative

The Riverside Town Council regretfully accepted the resignation of Helen Weiland as their representative to the South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Service (SCWEMS) Joint Powers Board (JPB).

According to Weiland’s resignation letter, she will step down Sept. 15 and her stated reason for leaving is the “need to step down as either Encampment Station Manager or Board Member.” Weiland discussed the fact the SCWEMS JPB is working to restructure their board and have a separation between the board and ambulance directors.

The council discussed the need to find a replacement for Weiland, and has at least one person they would like to approach about the position.

Marylin Godfrey, owner of the Rawlins KOA campground, approached the council to express interest in representing the Town of Riverside to the Carbon County Visitors Council (CCVC).

After a round of questioning led by Karran Bedwell, the town council approved a motion to have Godfrey as their representative. Godfrey noted that she has been attending CCVC meetings for several years, after becoming concerned about a lodging survey that did not include campgrounds or RV parks.

“As a lodging owner, I think that I can best represent what we do and the two percent tax.” Godfrey said. She also noted that there is only one other CCVC board member from the lodging industry right now.

The next Riverside town council meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Oct. 9 at the Riverside Town Hall.
