Deb Clark is the second person in Saratoga to be nominated for Wyoming Business Report’s Wyoming Women of Influence this month.
Clark’s nomination falls in the non-profit category for her work as Adjutant of the Angus England American Legion Post No. 54.
Clark has been the Adjutant with the American Legion since the spring of 2010 when Gary Maki retired form the position.
The Adjutant is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Legion’s business, doing the bookwork and keeping inline what has been voted on at Legion meetings. Clark also takes the meeting minutes.
As Adjutant, the American Legion put her in charge of the bar and setting up benefits.
Clark said the nomination came as a surprise to her and the email she received didn’t state why she was nominated, but she said she thought it was because of the benefits she works on as the Adjutant.
In June, Clark provided the food for the Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraiser held by Jessica and Kevin Sharp.
She was also in charge of the charity benefit held a couple of weeks ago for the Deanna Barrett family. Their pickup truck was destroyed in a car wreck in early July and the family spent several days in the hospital because of their injuries.
Clark also has a helping hand tree at the Legion during the Christmas season for children who attend the HeadStart preschool and organizes getting Santa for the Saratoga Fire Truck the weekend before Christmas. The fire department and Santa Claus deliver candy to children in Saratoga.
As Adjutant, Clark organizes the Fourth of July parade and the Parade of Lights in December.
During the holidays, she hosts dinners for the public at the American Legion and cooks breakfast for the Wounded Warrior Event in June.
Clark is also responsible for preparing a dinner for the National Guard troops during the flood season.
Clark said she enjoys doing these things because it is a way for her to give back to the community and to the veterans of the community.
She is a veteran herself, Clark served in the U.S. Navy. Clark said she also encourages people to become members of the American Legion. “We are not a government affiliated,” Clark said. She feels some people don’t join the Legion because it might be connected to the government.
Clark said she plans to attend the dinner hosted by the Wyoming Business Report on Sept. 16 at Little America in Cheyenne.
