Wreck claims Saratoga man

Alcohol is suspected as the contributing factor that lead to a head on double fatality crash on Aug 10. The crash occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. 2.3 miles west of Douglas on Interstate 25 at mile post 142.3.

Thirty-nine-year-old Craig B. Powell, of Saratoga, was identified as the driver of a 2006 Honda Civic. Powell was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25. Fifty-five-year-old Kevin S. Martin, of Rock Springs ,was traveling north on I-25 following behind a third vehicle in his 2001 Chrysler 300M. The third vehicle observed Powell’s oncoming Honda and swerved right to avoid a crash. Martin did not have time to react to avoid Powell and a head-on collision resulted. After impact, Martin’s Chrysler caught on fire.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the crash scene resulting in fatalities 90 and 91 on Wyoming’s highways for 2014. Alcohol use by Powell is being investigated as the contributing factor of the crash.
