Water meter project: "very close" to settlement

The Saratoga/Carbon County Impact Joint Powers (water and sewer) Board are reportedly close to a an agreement with Reiman Construction.

At the Aug. 16 water and sewer board meeting, town of Saratoga Engineer Chuck Bartlett said “we are very close,” when asked about the Reiman meter issue.

The water and sewer board went into executive session at July’s meeting to discuss a settlement number. At the June 11 water and sewer board meeting, board chairman Don Price said the board paying anywhere between $12,000 to $35,000 for the retainage fee was “unacceptable”.

However, an exact number has not been released.

“All I can say is right now, the number (the joint powers board) has come up with; we’re at that, if not slightly higher,” Bartlett added at the end of the meeting.

Bartlett said he called Scott Reiman, owner of Reiman Construction, on Aug. 13. Bartlett said he had not received a response at the time of the meeting.

In other business, Bartlett had presented the board a list of streets and sewer projects which need to be completed in Saratoga, and specifically discussed how the Carbon County Consensus Grant funds, which are funds provided by the county, would be spent.

Bartlett said most of the funds would likely be spent on infrastructure—specifically on town streets.

Part of the reason for spending money on the streets was because the sewers have received consensus funds the past four years, and the roads are in need of repair

Bartlett told the board the list provided was non-exhaustive. The Saratoga Sun was not able to receive a copy of the list at press time.

The next water and sewer board meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Saratoga Town Hall.
