New faces and new opportunities will ring in a new school year at Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD#2).
Jim Copeland has already taken the helm as CCSD#2’s new superintendent. As he started on July 1, Copeland said he hopes to make CCSD#2 one of, if not the top, school district(s) in the state. Additionally, Copeland said he hopes to be present in all of the communities and schools as the school year progresses.
The 2014/2015 school year will have many exciting opportunities for students and teachers alike. After several teachers retired last year, 15 new teachers are joining CCSD#2 schools. At Saratoga Middle/High School, Zachary Schmidt and Heather Bartlett are joining the special education department, Bailey Jackson will be teaching English, Noel Shepard is the new art teacher, Shaleas Harrison will be the new science teacher and Kaelin (Watson) Crawford is going to be in the physical education department.
Saratoga Elementary will welcome fourth grade teacher Amanda Ruland and music/band teacher Cody Sheldon to their staff.
Encampment is bringing in Karim Bekka to teach math.
In northern Carbon County, Kendra Brooks is going to be teaching math, and Scott Bradford and Jamie Short will be joining the science department at Hanna-Elk Mountain Jr/Sr High School.
Tiera Scott is teaching second grade and Jeff Fuller is teaching fifth grade at Hanna Elementary. Special Education teacher Tricia Lee will be moving to Hanna Elementary from Elk Mountain.
Additionally, Chelsea Eisenbarth is teaching grades three and four at Medicine Bow Elementary.
The north end of CCSD#2 will have a new school to look forward to as Hanna Elementary is to be completed in October.
“It’s always exciting to open up a new school,” Copeland said.
The school will give the younger students in Hanna new facilities and new opportunities for learning. Building includes state-of-the-art amenities to help enhance student learning.
A few of the features of the school include a mural depicting the history of Hanna, of which Copeland said he was very impressed with. Additionally, CCSD#2 board member Bob Patton said after a recent tour of the building he was very impressed with the gym.
The Saratoga Sun staff would like to wish all of the new staff, veteran teachers, parents and the students an exciting and fun 2014/2015 school year!
