Big changes are coming to the Saratoga Sun. Perhaps you have seen our ads about some of the changes.
The place where we have printed our paper for many years is closing down their press.
It came as a shock to us, but as newspaper people, we adjust to change.
We looked at several options and starting next week the Casper Star Tribune is printing our paper.
Technology makes this possible, as we have been sending our paper up to the current printer by FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
What this change means for our readers and our advertisers is a taller paper. We will go from a 14-inch tall paper to a 22-inch tall paper.
This will allow more color photos (most weeks, color on every page), more news on each page and, yes, more advertising on each page.
It also means a new design. We like our current design and will implement as much of that design as possible into the new size.
The Saratoga Sun started out as what is called a “broadsheet” in 1891, and now 125 years later, we are returning to that format.
In 1953, the paper changed from the taller format to the shorter design, which is called a tabloid.
As we dive into this new design, we hope you will continue to enjoy the stories of the people who make this Valley a vibrant place to live.
