American horseman

Craig Cameron, renowned horseman, will conduct a free horsemanship clinic at Buck Springs Rodeo Grounds on 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.

Cameron has his own show on RFD-TV, is a member of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, is the author of two books on horsemanship and has been teaching clinics for almost 30 years. He plans to work with at least one "problem" horse to show people at the clinic how to work with their horses. "It's not about making them, it's about teaching them," Cameron said.

Cameron has been a working cowboy since he was a child and believes the better the horse you have, the better the job you can do. He also believes that you can judge the personality of a person by the way their horse acts. Cameron is constantly trying to improve his own horsemanship with better technique and he likes to share his knowledge.

Tom Arthur, owner of Upper Cedar Creek Ranch, is responsible for bringing Cameron to the Valley. Cameron says that Arthur is "a great guy and a good horseman that likes to share it with others."

Cameron expects participants in the clinic to come "with an attitude to learn," and they should feel free to ask questions.

"To learn, you've got to ask questions," said Cameron.

Through his clinics Cameron hopes to keep improving and carry on the tradition of the Cowboy.
