John W. Craig, 88, of Saratoga, passed away June 9, 2014, following a short illness.
Funeral services took place June 13, 2014, in the Valley Chapel at the Saratoga Cemetery. Interment followed in the Saratoga Cemetery.
John was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Mountain View, Mo. He married Melcine Howard on June 13, 1952. They were married for more than 61 years.
John served for two years in the U.S. Army, stationed mostly in Germany. He worked in timber and lumber mills for a large part of his career, until the mills no longer operated. He then worked as a Deputy Marshal in Saratoga for a short time before becoming a guard at the Wyoming State Penitentiary. He retired after 21 years as a Captain.
John loved reading old western books, walking and most of all, fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Melcine; son, John W. Craig, II; step-daughters, Patricia Ostrem and Patrice (Gary) Schnering; sister, Grace (Bob) Johnston; brother, Clinton (Nadeen); other step-children, Doug, Judy, Ferne and David and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Rachel Craig; brothers, Jim and Tom; and sisters, Thelma Rosenburg, Judy Baldon, Jackie Griffeth and Beulah Wagner.
