Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
Good things are in store for Platte Valley residents, as Good Things: New, Gently Used and Antiques Items opens its doors to the public.
Bob Herring, owner of Encampment's newest business, said the idea to open a store started after he started running out of room.
"We had some of our stuff at the Red Wagon, and our daughter and son-in-law went and bought a shed in a storage auction," he said. "So when they got that, we ended up with quite a number of things."
After having "more things than space for it", Herring and his family opened up their new shop in Encampment.
Herring said they primarily deal with antiques and furniture, but they also have office supplies, artwork and glass work.
Part of the new store's appeal, Herring said, is a diverse and wide inventory.
"We try to get something in the price-range for everyone, he said. "We just have a variety of things ... there's something for everybody."
"The store changes everyday, from either adding new inventory into the store to selling something to replacing it with something else. If you go in once, it will be different when you come back."
Also, vendors are able to establish areas within the store to sell their goods.
After 43 years in Encampment, Herring said opening a store is important to the economy of his hometown.
"It's about trying to get people to support their home," he said.
By providing more shopping options in Encampment, Herring hopes people will start shopping local more often.
"We would like to offer people some things that they don't have to leave the Valley for," he said. "That is really hard because we haven't had things for so long, people have to learn all over again to shop at home."
The grand opening of Good Things: New, Gently-Used and Antique Items will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at their shop in downtown Encampment.
