Candidate filing period opens May 15

On May 15, citizens who are interested in running for office will be able to file at local, county and state entities to ensure their name is on the primary ballot.

Lisa Smith with the Carbon County Clerk’s office said the filing period is from May 15 through May 30.

Parties interested in filing for a state office, need to file with the Secretary of State.

Those interested in running at the county level, need to file with the Carbon County Clerk’s office in Rawlins.

To run for office in a municipality, citizens are required to register with the municipalities town clerk.

Citizens interested in running for Carbon County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees and special districts such as the water conservation district, cemetery boards file between Aug. 6 and Aug. 25.

The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 19.
