Powell grabs first at Wheatland

Freshman runner McKenzie Powell was Encampment’s first-place earner at Friday’s Wheatland Invite.

With a time of 1:03.90, Powell received first place in the 400 meter dash, and became pre-qualified for the state meet. The meet at Wheatland High School was Encampment’s first for the 2014 track and field season.

The girls’ team took home 12th place with a total of 10 points.

“It was good to get a meet in so our athletes could get marks in their events,” said coach Kegan Willford. “We will look to improve on these marks from week to week.”

The Tigers’ next meet is the Guernsey Invite, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Guernsey-Sunrise High School.
