After placing six in the top 10 at regionals, the Saratoga wrestling team is ready to combat more competitors at this weekend’s 2014 Wyoming High School State Wrestling Meet.
Out of the nine Panthers who competed at regionals, Thatcher Spiering placed first; Hunter Mason, Chaze Wiant and Jacob Wells earned second; Thomas Ingleby took third; and Bradley Bifano grabbed fourth. The team overall took fifth place out of nine teams participating.
“Overall I’m pleased that we placed six guys in the top four at regionals,” said head coach Jared Mason.
With the whole team of nine eligible to compete, the Panther grapplers now look forward to what they can do at state. Mason said his boys will go into the tourney excited and confident that they can wrestle well.
“I think the kids have prepared physically and mentally, and they’re a great bunch to coach,” he said. “I wouldn’t trade this group for anyone, and they put in a quality effort throughout the season. They got better and more coachable throughout the year, and from a coaching standpoint, we’ve done what we need to do up to this point. We need to realize it’s just another tournament that we’re working for, and we can’t over-think it or have more added pressure.”
The Panthers begin the two-day state wrestling meet at 9 a.m. Friday, at the Casper Events Center in Casper.
