Airplanes fly in the dining room

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

The staff at the facility are dedicated to giving the very best quality of care and quality of life to all of our residents. One group of employees are often unsung heroines (or heroes). They are our Certified Nursing Assistants who are there for our residents throughout the day 24/7. They provide each of the residents with activities of daily living—bathing, bed mobility, dressing, eating, hygiene, locomotion, toileting, and transferring. These really terrific people are an integral part of our residents’ extended family. The residents, their families and the other staff greatly appreciate the hard work and compassion that these employees give to our residents.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday afternoon, five residents played Dominoes with Janet Kennaday winning. On Monday afternoon, seven residents played Yahtzee with Pat Rust winning. On Tuesday morning, seven residents elected to play Dominoes again with Charlotte Gibbons winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 12 residents played Bingo. Dora Martin and Frank Jereb won Four Corners. Carol Higby, Janet Kennaday, and Kenny Hoagland won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Lila Worden, Wilma Perue, Elder Alameda, and Elder Blackham. On Saturday afternoon, residents played Blackjack.

For Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, on Monday two residents had lasagna, and on Friday two residents had Chicken Alfredo.

On Sunday afternoon, Reverend Miki Laws of the Encampment Presbyterian Church led our church service and offered Communion with assistance of Ken Kreusel. Doris Davis assisted with music on the keyboard.

On Wednesday morning, Merlynn Hoopes and Lynda Healey gave Hair Care to six ladies and did the nails of five residents.

On Thursday afternoon, 10 residents made paper airplanes and flew them in the dining room in Arts and Crafts.

We wish to thank Merlynn Hoopes for popcorn for Bingo.

We are in the need of small Bingo prizes, including small stuffed animals. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

The Activity program relies on volunteers to enhance residents’ lives. If interested, please call 326-8212 and ask for the Activity Director, Tom Mansfield.
