Encampment High School's varsity boys' basketball team is on a roll this season, winning their seventh game of the season with a 61-52 victory over the Dubois Rams.
The Tigers now have a 7-1 non-conference record for 2013-14. Their only season loss came from last month's game against the Saratoga Panthers, who won 80-60.
Monday's fast-paced game at Dubois was a close matchup during the first half, with the Tigers on top 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, and the Rams leading 30-27 at the half. While the Rams struggled with ball possession and making shots in the third quarter, Encampment sped ahead to take over 54-43 at the end of the third quarter. The Tigers couldn't be stopped in the fourth quarter, and clawed ahead to win the game 61-52.
Encampment had also beaten Dubois 61-41 earlier this season in December.
The Tigers' other recent win was Saturday, after beating Hayden, Colo. 60-43. Guy Erickson scored the most in that game, with 22 points; Luke Pantle made 18 points and 11 rebounds; Brett Miller aced eight points; and Harold Jackson managed seven points and five steals.
Coach Clint Bromley said he was happy to see the entire team do well in Saturday's game.
"The team is showing improvement with a better showing from the supporting players," he said. "The defense is starting to gel, and players are starting to learn their responsibilities on the court. The game was a complete team effort, with a team total seven turnovers versus 23 for Hayden."
The Tigers also won their Jan. 7 game against the Laramie Sophomores, with a score of 55-48. Pantle was the leading scorer in that game, with 21 points, followed by Erickson with 18.
Contributing to the remaining 16 points were five other Tigers, including Stewart (six points), Jackson (four), Jarrett (three), Flauding (two) and Ralston (one).
"We definitely came out and played a little better in the second half, but we were expecting something a little better in the first half than how it came out," Bromley said regarding the Laramie game. "If we could play these guys everyday, we'd definitely make our ball club better. They're a pretty good ball team themselves."
The Tigers next play two home conference games, one at 4 p.m. Friday against Cokeville, and one at noon Saturday against Farson-Eden.
