Herald suspends publication

With the issue of Dec. 27th, the Encampment Herald suspended publication indefinitely. Editor Drury is going to the Cheyenne Daily Leader as its business manager. He says in his farewell article that the main reason was in the fact that the business was no longer paying and as that is an essential factor in any business he preferred taking another position to remaining and running behind.

The Herald has been established for a number of years and was always a well printed and edited paper although not always maybe in accord with our views. Mr. Drury states that he expects that someone will reopen the work in the near future as soon as the conditions will permit. The ownership of the paper is in litigation and there is at this time no head to the paper.

Local boys arrested on burglary charge

Two local young men are behind the bars at Rawlins, charged with having burglarized two Saratoga stores recently. They are Everett Bayes and another lad said to be of the same name, and a cousin of Everett.

The Laughlin hardware store was entered some time ago and several guns, knives and other articles were stolen and more recently the Evans Grocery was broken into and considerable merchandise sorted out and moved into the alley in the rear. Indications were that the thieves were frightened away before they could complete this job.

However, they tapped the cash register for some change, and also for a $2 bill, which had been placed in a side compartment as more or less of a curiosity. It is said this unusual piece of currency led to discovery of the identity of the perpetrators of the robberies. When it was presented in payment for food at an east-side restaurant suspicion centered on the boys, and it is said they confessed both robberies after having been arrested and questioned by Sheriff Jack McPherson.

At last accounts they were being held in the county jail at Rawlins.
