The Saratoga Planning Commission had a productive evening at its Dec. 10 meeting. The majority of the two-hour meeting was spent approving a plan to amend Title 18 Zoning of the town code.
The amendments would relax restrictions on home occupations. The Planning Commission stated that these amendments would allow the residents of Saratoga "to operate home occupations in their residences as an accessory use".
Major amendments to code 18.06.190 include changing the phrasing from "permitted" to "allowed", in which a resident will no longer need a special permit to operate an occupation within their home.
The list of changes include prohibiting any signs indicating home occupations, and disallowing any home business that generates excess noise and/or odors, as compared to an average residential neighborhood.
Additionally, the Saratoga Planning Commission approved to allow bookkeeping, additional home crafts, professional computer/internet services, sales activities that do not generate traffic, trades (i.e. plummer, electrician, painter), and services that are performed away from the dwelling.
Other home occupations that are not a nuisance to the residential area will also be considered.
The amendments will be presented to the mayor and the Saratoga Town Council for approval.
The next planning commission meeting is at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2014 at Saratoga Town Hall.
