At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.
A resident, who has been with us since April 1 of this year, will be leaving shortly to go back to her home in Medicine Bow. Pat Sims has lived there for 38 years with her husband, Robert. She says that she has received excellent care and has been treated fairly by staff. She was never asked to do anything that she couldn’t handle. She loves playing Bingo and other games. She is a real cardsharp at Blackjack and her betting skills would probably give casinos in Las Vegas a run for their money. She says that she got along with the residents and has made a lot of friends. She has always treated them with dignity and respect. She says that her mother said, “to always treat others the way that you wanted to be treated.” She wants to thank everyone for making her stay at the facility enjoyable. The staff and residents will miss this sharp lady.
Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Wednesday afternoon, 10 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, eight residents played Bingo. Dora Martin and Charlotte Gibbons won Four Corners. Kenny Hoagland and Charlotte Gibbons won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Betty Dean, Lila Worden, and Gloria Rakness.
On Sunday afternoon before church, the Encampment Community Choir gave 10 residents their Christmas concert. It was also attended by 10 people from the community. Pastor Gene Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center led church. Doris Davis played traditional religious music on her keyboard.
On Monday morning, six residents attended Resident Council under the leadership of President Randy Cross, discussing concerns about living at the facility. Immediately following the residents attended Food Council with Dietary Manager, Brynna Hazen, discussing any concerns they had about the food.
On Monday afternoon, five residents went in the van to the Encampment Thrift Shop and picked out things for Christmas at no cost.
On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan gave beautiful hairdos to four ladies in Hair Care.
On Thursday afternoon, we celebrated the birthday of Barbara Hooker with ice cream and cake.
