Town to host public meeting on master plan

Town of Saratoga Mayor John Zeiger encourages anyone who is interested in Saratoga’s future to attend the public meeting Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m.

“We are expecting an influx of people and we want to be ready,” Zeiger said.

A master plan has not been completed in the town of Saratoga, Zeiger said. Even if there is not growth, the town should have an updated master plan.

Zeiger said he was involved with the housing round tables sponsored by the Carbon County Economic Development Corporation and its executive director Cindy Wallace. Also present was Pat Robbins with the Wyoming Business Council. It was during those meetings, Zeiger learned of a Community Block Grant available for the master plan, one that would required a $5,000 match for a $50,000 grant.

Michael Haak, who is working on the airport masterplan, recommended to Zeiger that the town of Saratoga investigate doing a master plan. “We were going to do a housing study at first, which was $20,000.” Haak explained to Zeiger that with a larger match, they could do the master plan, which included a housing study and save the town money down the road.

Zeiger said the town would have discovered during the housing study process that they needed a master plan in two or three years.

“I, of course, was concerned about the cost,” Zeiger said. “That is when VOV offered $2,500 to help with the match.”

Zeiger said his plan is to have a steering committee once the grant is approved. “That way everyone will have input.”
