Time 'Flies' when you're having fun

A tree that stood less than two feet tall garnered a bid of $300 Friday night at the Festival of Trees Gala and Auction.

The tree had handmade flies that were tied by 10-year-old Ethan Bartholomew. The bidding war took place between outfitters Mitch Bangert and Mike "Hack" Patterson.

The tree was aptly named "Time 'Flies' When You're Having Fun".

And it seemed that fun was had by the sold-out crowd at the Festival of Trees as bidding wars continued throughout the evening. The top bid of $650 was won by Hack's Tackle and Outfitter's popular "Fly Fishing Dream Package". Coming in second highest bid was Gary Francis' handmade television cabinet for $625.

More than $8,000 gross was raised during the Festival for "A Community United," a medical fund for Encampment and Riverside residents and the Corbett Medical Foundation for Valley residents that need help with medical expenses.

"Again, I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the Valley," Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce Exectutive Directory Stacy Crimmins said.

"Donations for the auction and the purchases of the auction items continue to exceed my expections," Crimmins said.

Crimmins said the sold-out event was a record attendance with more than 130 people attending.

Crimmins said she appreciates Teense Willford's hard work all weekend for the chamber. Willford was the auctioneer at the Festival and announcer at the parade Saturday. He is very generous with his time and talents, Crimmins said.
