Fall sports stars recognized at banquet

Tears were shed as Saratoga High School athletes closed the fall season with an awards banquet, which honored efforts shown from the school's 2013 football and volleyball teams.

The Platte Valley Community Center Great Hall was filled with friends, family members and school officials during the Nov. 25 event, where supporters witnessed awards being given and inspirational coach speeches. The Saratoga volleyball players were first honored by coaches Shayley Love and Amy Johnston, and following were Saratoga varsity football coaches Scott Bokelman and Josh Sandlian, who announced and handed out their specialized player awards.

The list of player awards and honorees is as follows:

Assists Award- Sarah Burton

Serving Award- Alicia Zaragoza

Dig Award- Meredith Lincoln

Kill Award- Sierra Schutte

Blocking Award- Justine Fourman

Most Improved- Shaelee Hamann

Coaches Award- Nina Ford

Senior Awards- Shelby McGuire, Heather Oxford and Nikki Pacheco

Assists Award- Shelby McGuire, with 288 assists for the season

Serving Award- Mati Love, with a serving percentage of 92.2 percent, and 14th overall in conference for serving

Defense Award- Veronica Lincoln, with 301 digs, and 5th overall in conference for digs

Kills, Blocks and Digs Award- Heather Oxford, with 243 total kills, 80 total blocks and 456 total digs

Most Improved Award- Justine Fourman, made 28 blocks

Coaches Award- Kylie Theesfeld

Panther Award- Nikki Pacheco

Rookie of the Year Award- Meredith Lincoln

MVP Award- Heather Oxford
