Carbon County Classic kicks off winter sports season

The Platte Valley’s high school basketball season is ready to begin this weekend with the two-day Carbon County Classic.

This tournament is the first area high school basketball competition of the 2013-14 season, and will feature Saratoga’s, Encampment’s and HEM’s basketball teams. The first day of the tourney begins at 9 a.m. in H.E.M. High School. Saturday, the tournament moves to Encampment School with a start time of 9 a.m. Both the boys and girls high school teams from the Carbon County School District No. 2 will participate.

Concessions will be served at both schools to support school projects.

The Saratoga High School wrestling team has their first match this Dec. 6 and 7 in Evanston.

The Saratoga Sun’s sports edition will appear in the Dec. 11 paper, which will include recaps from this weekend’s events and expectations of coaches for their teams.
