In honor of the holiday tradition, several Thanksgiving worship services will take place in the Platte Valley this Sunday.
The annual Community Thanksgiving Worship Service, sponsored by the Platte Valley Ministerial Association, takes place at 5 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Saratoga. The worship service is followed by a potluck fellowship meal at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. This is a wonderful opportunity for the entire community to gather for a time of worship and giving thanks for the many blessings enjoyed.
This year’s service will include special music from the Community Choir, readings by various churches and the evening message by Helen Young of the Presbyterian Church. There will be a collection of canned goods for the local Food Bank, and an offering that will be used for the Food Bank and Traveler’s Assist Fund. The Food Bank and Traveler’s Assist Fund are community efforts of the Ministerial Association, Police Department and others to help those in need.
Following the worship service, there is a community potluck meal across the street at St. Ann’s Parish Hall, where meat and drinks are provided. Those who attend are asked to bring their own table service and a dish to share.
In Encampment is the Encampment Community Thanksgiving Service, which is sponsored by Encampment area churches. That service begins at 6 p.m. this Sunday at the Christian Community Church in Encampment, and includes music and refreshments.
