Those looking for a home-cooked turkey dinner and good local company can visit St. Ann’s Parish Hall this Thanksgiving.
For this year’s Thanksgiving Day, which is Nov. 28, Platte Valley Helping Hands will sponsor its 18th annual free Thanksgiving Dinner to all looking for a homestyle feast. Gertrude Herold, PVHH Board of Directors member, said the dinner is free of charge and open to all who are interested.
“It is open to everyone in the community, and we’ve had people come from Encampment and Rawlins,” she said. “It is free for all and we never turn anyone away. It is something we always wanted to do for the community and everyone in it, and reservations are not needed for the dinner.”
Herold said the feast will include a typical Thanksgiving Dinner, consisting of roast turkey, baked ham, dressing, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, green peas, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, hot dinner rolls, butter, a relish tray, punch, coffee and tea. She said the turkeys will be cooked by the Hotel Wolf, while Helping Hands plans to cook everything else for the large meal.
“We want to make everyone feel welcome, and it’s not just for the needy or poor,” Herold said. “If you want to come down that day and not cook, we would be thrilled to have you. We can also have people call in for home deliveries if they want to stay at home and eat dinner. We will call and take orders to deliver those dinners.”
Herold said home deliveries begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving, and the dinner at the hall will start one hour later. She also thanked PVHH Board Members Marilyn Verplanke, Sue Bartlett, Leslie Johnson, Jack Riddick, Debbie Wada and Merlynn Hoopes for their work in putting the feast together.
“We want everyone to come and enjoy a wonderful home-cooked meal with others in the Valley on this holiday,” Herold said.
The PVHH-sponsored free Thanksgiving Dinner takes place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, at St Ann’s Parish Hall, 218 Spring Ave. in Saratoga.
