School board members are aiming for July 1 to have a new superintendent.
Carbon County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees, after consulting with the Wyoming School Board Association, will use the organization in a nationwide search for a new superintendent.
According to a tentative timeline, CCSD 2 may have a replacement for current superintendent Bob Gates by July 1, 2014.
Executive director of WSBA Mark Higdon said the first step in the search will gather feedback from school board members through a survey. According to the tentative deadline, the surveys are due Dec. 13.
Board member Tonya Bartholomew, with the help from Janice Peterson, created a survey to get feedback from community members.
Higdon said in a previous meeting he does not usually administer surveys to community members, but would take a look at the results of such a survey.
Bartholomew said getting community feedback for a new superintendent is important for CCSD 2, because those are the people board members represent.
The board will use multiple different avenues to administer the survey, including Survey Monkey, an online avenue to administer surveys. CCSD 2 will administer the community survey between Dec. 2 and Dec. 10, which falls in with the deadline for the survey step.
Peterson said the data collected will be used only to help in the search for a new superintendent.
“It’s not the public’s decision to hire a superintendent, that’s the board’s job. But I do think it is critical to have their feedback,” Peterson said.
After the surveys are complied and reviewed by WSBA, CCSD 2 will begin to advertise the position on a variety of channels Jan. 6. All applications are due Feb. 14, according to the tentative timeline.
On Feb. 19, WSBA estimates CCSD 2 will have three or five finalists and begin to determine an interview process. Possible interview dates are Feb. 24-28 and March 3-7.
The announcement of the new superintendent has not yet been determined.
