Leaders luncheon gets locals excited for 2014

Platte Valley community members geared up for next year’s festivities at the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Leaders Luncheon, held last Wednesday at the Platte Valley Community Center.

The luncheon, catered by Lollypops, was led by Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Stacy Crimmins. Those in attendance included Mayor John Zeiger; Town Clerk Suzie Cox; Platte Valley Christian Center Pastor Gene Smith; Encampment Town Council Member Mary Martin; Chris Shannon, owner of ‘Toga Productions and co-owner of Prancing Antelope log and timber frame building company; Mitch Bangert, owner/designer at Offero, LLC and owner of Harrison’s Guest House and Guide Service; Kim Givens, Saratoga Museum Director; Sally Patton, Community Prevention Professional for the Carbon County Prevention Management Organization; Carbon County Museum Director Kelly Bohanan, and Stephanie Vines, Executive Director for the Platte Valley Community Center.

Since the meeting’s topic was Platte Valley events for 2014, attendees shared which events they were or would like to be involved with for the year. Attendees were handed a list with events from January to December, titled “2014 Platte Valley Community Events”, and went around the table discussing which events they were planning or excited about.

“The reason we do this is because it’s better for all of us if we can help promote each others’ events, and if you know about each others’ events you can help promote better,” Crimmins said. “There’s also a little less chance of duplication of more than one thing on any event, especially during the summer.”

With winter just around the corner, members at the luncheon also focused on major events happening at the beginning of next year. The event list included the Saratoga Lake Ice Fishing Derby, Jan. 18-19; Sierra Madre Winter Carnival, Jan. 24-26; Donald E. Erickson Memorial Chariot Races, Feb. 15-16 and Ben Romios Memorial Poker Run, Feb. 16.
