The Saratoga Panthers managed to fight off cold weather and pull through with respectable times on their home turf during Friday’s Saratoga Invitational.
The invite took place at the Saratoga Golf Course, where Coach Rex Hohnholt said he was happy it didn’t start pouring rain on the competitors, who were already bundled up in warmer clothing.
“It was a good meet and we had a break in the weather, thank goodness,” he said. “It was looking ugly there for a while, and even though it was chilly, our kids did well. Our kids competed hard, and it was good to see all of them out there showing the fruits of their hard work.”
Out of the Saratoga varsity runners, Cameron Collamer secured the only top ten placement with a time of 18:39.43, which landed him seventh place. Cruz Escobedo did well in junior varsity, placing fifth with a time of 30:18.18, and Gage Bartlett reached second place for the middle school boys, with a time of 12:32.09.
Hohnholt said he was thankful to host the event in Saratoga, and to see so many school participate.
“It was a good race with good competition, and it was good to see a lot of schools show up,” he said. “Everyone was worried about the weather, but it held out for us. We were excited to have it here and it was great to host, and we’d also like to thank the Saratoga Inn for hosting it.”
The team’s next meet is the Lyman Invite, which is tomorrow at Fort Bridger.
