Serving the Platte Valley since 1888

Good turnout for barbecue

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

We had our annual summer barbecue on Thursday with 35 family members and guests. Teense Willford sang and played country music on his guitar with the assistance of Jack on the fiddle and Kate on the guitar. Our Dietary Department prepared a great spread with hamburgers, salads, and assorted desserts. A good time was had by all. We wish to thank Mayor John Zeiger and several town employees for delivering tables and chairs that we borrowed from the Platte Valley Christian Center.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday afternoon, four residents played Uno with Edith Donnis winning. On Tuesday morning, four residents played Yahtzee with Barbara Hooker winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 11 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, eight residents played Bingo. Frank Jereb, Truth Karsoft, Nadine Caleb, and Pat Sims won Four Corners. Charlotte Gibbons and Frank Jereb won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Gloria Rakness, Betty Dean, and Lila Worden.

For Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, four residents had baked ham on Monday, and five residents had fried chicken and birthday cake on Friday. We celebrated the birthday of Orley Roberts among others.

On Sunday afternoon, Pastor Gene Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center led church for residents. Doris Davis assisted on the keyboard with traditional religious music.

On Monday morning, nine residents met for Resident Council, under the leadership of President Randy Cross, discussing concerns about living at the facility.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Kiwanis hosted the monthly birthday party with cake and sherbert. We celebrated the birthday of Orley Roberts.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan gave beautiful hairdos to six ladies in Hair Care.

On Saturday, residents went on a fishing trip to Saratoga Lake with Tasha and David Worthington, having hot dogs and chips for lunch.

We wish to thank Candy France and Jan Cook for the candy and Betty Dean for the jewelry and candy for Bingo.

The Activity program relies on volunteers to enhance residents’ lives. If interested, please call 326-8212 and ask for the Activity Director, Tom Mansfield.
