Regina Jensen hurt
Miss Regina Jensen was up in the balcony in the opera house on Thursday evening about 5:30 and as the lower windows come over the floor of the balcony she could look out. One of the windows being partly down from the top she leaned out over it and the catch gave away throwing her to the sidewalk about 10 feet below. She struck on her face and hands and for a while it was thought that she was seriously hurt, but it has proved to be only bad sprains and bruises. Mrs. C. F. Holck saw her as she fell and called to her son, Fred, who ran out and picked Regina up and carried her into the house. Dr. Price was called and made an examination but found nothing serious. She was removed to her home, where she has about recovered from the shock and bruises.

Accident at sawmill last Monday
Two persons were injured at the local sawmill Monday, when the steam-driven log carriage got temporarily out of control. Kenneth McKinsley, ratchet-setter, was thrown from the carriage and received cuts and bruises which laid him up for a few days, and Owen Baldwin, assistant on the carriage, was also thrown off, but was not injured to any extent.
Mrs. C. L. Lawson, wife of a mill worker, who was standing on the side lines, was slightly injured by being struck by a steel spring which broke loose from the carriage bumper, when the runaway carriage tore it loose from its fastenings.

Saratoga Bowling Lanes to open this weekend
Saratoga’s newest business- Saratoga Bowling Lanes- will open this weekend, according to Richard T. Bucholz, manager.
A crew recently completed installation of the AMF automatic pin spotters and only a few minor adjustments remain to be made before the lanes will be ready to open.
Included in the building, located one door east of Avon’s Café, are four bowling lanes, a complete line of modern pin spotting equipment, shoe and locker rental, and bowling ball, shoe and shirt sales.
Open bowling will be offered until October when Mr. Bucholz plans to start winter leagues. Hours the lanes will be open have not yet been established. A grand opening is planned at the lanes Aug. 15 and 16 with a qualified instructor to be here to give free lessons and to assist in getting local people interested in bowling.
Mr. Bucholz said Avon’s Café will extend their hours in the evening to correspond with the bowling lane hours so refreshments will be available to bowlers.

CCSD #2 board approves budget
Carbon County School District board members approved a $10.8 million budget during their meeting on July 20.
The $10.8 million general fund budget reflects a 6 percent increase in spending over last year’s budget. The increase reflects the drop of local revenue, offset by an $800,000 increase in state revenues. The local revenue drop was attributed to a drop in the assessed evaluation of CCSD #2.
The general fund mill levy will remain at 25 mills, however, the bond levy will drop from 9 mills to 5 mills. A little over $400,000 must be generated by the bond level in order to retire the bonds.
Many personnel changes were also made during the meeting. Resignations were approved for Jeffery Frazier, Encampment music teacher, and Mary Reeve, Medicine Bow kindergarten teacher. Early retirement was approved for Bill Rathbun, Saratoga instrumental music teacher and a one-year leave of absence was approved for Barbra Piertone, Hanna home economics teacher. Transfers were approved to move Cheryl Davis from half-time Saratoga Middle School special education to Saratoga Middle School full-time librarian, Elaine Olson from special education and remedial math at Saratoga Elementary School to half-time special education at Saratoga Middle School. Juanita Williams will move from elementary classroom teacher at Saratoga to half-time kindergarten and half-time computer. A proposal to transfer Ron Laird was tabled for further discussion.
The board hired Kenneth Lippincott as principal for Hanna-Elk Mountain High School, Janet Gray was hired as business education teacher at Medicine Bow, Terri Stille was hired as elementary teacher at Hanna and Evelyn Allred was hired as music instructor at Encampment.
