Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
After a long battle with cancer and surrounded by his loving family, Robert “Bob” Vorn, 73, passed away at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, June 13.
Bob was born June 2, 1940 in Rawlins to Nick and Katarina Vorn. He spent his childhood and early teen years growing up in Rawlins, where he attended school through his sophomore year. Bob transferred to Encampment to finish high school after spending a summer working on the Romios Ranch. During this time, he lived with the Pete and Jeannette Romios family on Beaver Creek. Bob participated in football, basketball, track and FFA before graduation from Encampment High in 1958.
Following high school, Bob attended on semester of college at the University of Wyoming before returning to Encampment to work on the ranch with Pete Romios. On Jan. 6, 1962, Bob married LeDawn Herring at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Saratoga. Boband LeDawn had two children, a son, Troy, and a daughter, Tracy. After ranching for several years, the Vorn family moved to Encampment and Bob began operating heavy equipment. He worked in the industries of timber and lumber, coal mining and ranching. Even after his retirement from the coal mine, Bob returned to the fields of Munroe Livestock Co. to help with everything from equipment maintenance, to planting crops, to cutting hay.
Bob was a member of the Wyoming National Guard for six years. He was also a member and past president of the Carbon County Predator Management Board. Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed them even more when his family, including wife, kids and grandsons, were there with him. His hobbies included hunting, camping, fishing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and drives to the mountains. He delighted in hearing his family ask, “Are we there yet?” and/or “How much farther?”
Bob kept a daily diary where he wrote the family stories. The daily entries of family, local and world events continue to be enjoyed as a reflection of our lives throughout the years, as well as a source for settling discussions. Bob is preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Margaret Vorn Price, and nephew, Jeff Price.
Bob is survived by his wife, LeDawn, son, Troy (Dani), daughter, Traci, grandsons, Wacey and Trevor (Jessie) and great-granddaughter, Lexi. Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center, 255 N. 30th, Laramie, WY 82070, or a charity of donor’s choice.
