Obituary: Brent Shay Carpenter

Brent Shay Carpenter, 74, passed away at his home in Wellton, Ariz. July 7, 2013. Brent was born April 4, 1939 in Longmont, Colo., to Roscoe M. and Nell T. Carpenter. He grew up in Saratoga and attended Saratoga schools. He resided in Rawlins until 1990, when he moved to Cheyenne with UPRR, eventually retiring after 30 years, then moving to Wellton.

Brent was a proud and active member of the Korien Shrine, a 32nd Mason and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirlee R. Carpenter, daughter Reva G. Carpenter and brother Donald N. Carpenter. Brent is survived by his wife Shirley G. (Sanders) Carpenter, whom he married April 4, 2003, daughter Talli Carpenter Schmidt (Rod), Brent Carpenter Jr. (Christon) from Rawlins, Denise Carpenter Brunger (Cary), of Melbourne, Fla. Stepsons Edward Schofield (Renee) of Ketchican, Ak., Michael Schofield (Julianne) of Emmett, Ida., brother Kenneth Carpenter of Big Bear Lake, Calif., 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Brent was loved by many, and there was no one he didn’t help. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, many wonderful friends and his beloved dog, Bingo.

Cremation has taken place in Yuma, Ariz. Internment is July 24 at 11 a.m. at the Saratoga Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brent’s name to Hospice of Arizona.
