Graveside funeral services for Phyllis Elizabeth (Sublette) Api were conducted at 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, in the Saratoga Cemetery by family friend Ben Whitfield of Rawlins, followed by interment in the local cemetery.
Mrs. Api, 78, died in Saratoga Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Alan Williams, with her family at her bedside.
She was born July 19, 1934 in Detroit, Mich., to Capt. William Herold and Edith Elizabeth (Treff) Sublette and grew up in the Detroit area. As a young member of a military family she traveled the world. She attended Mills College in Vermont and later taught English at a Catholic school in Mexico.
Phyllis and Eugene Sisracon Api were married Jan 27, 1962 at the United States Naval Air Station in Port-Lyautey, Kenitra, Morocco, North Africa, and lived in several foreign countries as well as throughout the United States before settling in Pasadena, Calif. She has been a resident of Saratoga for the past 3 years. For 16 years prior to moving to Saratoga she was a part-time resident here.
Mrs. Api was an ardent bridge player and enjoyed cards and playing games with her family and friends. She was a member of the Living Church of God for nearly 50 years as well as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Phyllis was proud of her Wyoming roots which include many ancestors who helped settle Sublette County as well as the Elk Mountain area of Carbon County.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Bobby Sublette.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Eugene (Chef) Api, four children, Jesse Daniel Sublette Api and wife Linda of Hacienda Heights, Calif., David Adriel Sublette Api and wife Diona of Glendive, Mont., Sarah Mettabel Sublette (Api) Williams and husband Alan of Saratoga and Abigail Sela Sublette Api who was married to Robert Hartley Saturday evening, July 6; and a brother, Capt. Frederick William (USAF Ret.) Sublette and wife Judy of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Kameron, David and Rachel Capozzoli and Darian Williams, Jonathan, Jennifer, Michael, Daniel, Benjamin, Raylen, Lauren and Ava Saragail Api and Riley Sandilands.
Carbon County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
