Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
Potential Wyoming gubernatorial candidate Taylor Haynes made a stop in Encampment last week during his exploratory tour of Wyoming.
Haynes, who ran as an Independent candidate in 2010, spoke at Encampment’s Sagebrush Senior Center July 2 to let people know of his vision for Wyoming and validity as a 2014 candidate. Haynes, a urologist and former University of Wyoming trustee, is running on a platform that includes property rights, local control and opposition to sales tax.
“I’m here to protect the citizens constitutional rights, that’s what I’m here for, and I’m here to protect Wyoming,” he said. “There are storm clouds on the horizon caused by the rampant encroachment of the federal government in issues ranging from health care reform to the invasion of property rights. Allowing Washington to keep Wyoming’s mineral royalties could lead to the first ever Wyoming income tax,” Haynes said in a press release.
Haynes also spoke about other issues such as employment and healthcare during the meeting.
“We in Wyoming can create jobs for our people, educate our children and manage our own healthcare,” he said. “The very essence of cutting edge information technology industry is being laid in Cheyenne. Wyoming has what it takes to be a strong and vibrant state if we draw the line now.”
Around 15 people attended the meeting to hear Haynes speak. He had previously spoken to the Platte Valley public in May, with the intent to support the referendum to repeal Senate File 104.
