Another blaze broke out at the Saratoga sawmill Friday afternoon, making it the second to occur in the past two weeks.
“It looked like some chips caught fire in a chute,” said Saratoga Fire Chief Randy Sikes who responded to the scene. “We have no idea how it started.”
The fire started in a chute used to transport chips from one area of the sawmill to the other, Sikes said.
Saratoga firefighters responded to the scene around 5 p.m. with three pump trucks and an equipment truck.
Saratoga firefighters could be seen on the roof of one of the buildings at the sawmill. Sikes said firefighters had to cut holes in the chute to get to the fire to extinguish it. Sikes said the fire was extinguished within a few hours.
No one was injured or killed in the blaze, Sikes said.
The first fire occurred 5 a.m. June 16 at the northwest corner of the facility. That fire was caused by sparks from routine welding that smoldered in logs overnight.
The cause of this most recent fire has not yet been determined.
