Fourth of July parade gears up for downtown

The Fourth of July parade is getting ready to make another fun and lasting impact for Saratoga’s 2013 Independence Day Celebration.

Deb Clark, Sergeant at Arms for the American LegionPost 54, said the parade begins at 11 a.m., and line-up begins two hours before then at Walnut Street and Highway 130. Clark has helped with the parade for the past four years.

“The checking in and lining up starts at 9 a.m. at the old AmeriGas building across from Aspen Sky (Merchant Mall),” she said. “The length of the parade depends on how many entries we get.”

Clark said the old-fashioned parade will take its usual Fourth of July route, going north on Highway 130 and then onto Bridge Street, and people wanting to participate can still sign up.

“The parade will include horses, cars, the color guard and the Avenue of Flags,” she said. “Anyone can sign up, and any donations for the parade go toward Tyler Pickett Park.”

According to the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce, the parade will also feature silly costumes, firetrucks and vintage cars. To sign up to be in the parade, call the American Legion at 307-326-9600.
