Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
The Carbon Cemetery Association invites the public to Memorial Day services at the historic cemetery on Sunday, May 26 at 10 a.m. Arlan Rounds of Medicine Bow’s St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will give the invocation and the benediction. The hills will ring with the music of Kenda Colman, vocalist; Marv Cronberg, bagpiper; and trumpeter Patrick Ellis of Difficulty. Victor Anderson is master of ceremonies.
A few moments of history will include a reading of the names of Carbon’s known interred veterans: William West, John Butler, John Isaac Haddix, John Siltamaki, Tom Dickinson, Thomas Blackburn, Allean Blackburn, Harry Chace, and Loree Chace O”Neal. Coal miners and their families also will be honored.
To attend, travel Highway 30 west from Medicine Bow, east from Hanna, turn south on County Road 115, opposite the wind turbine entry. The cemetery is approximately five miles from Highway 30. Continue following the small Carbon signs through two gates. Be aware that this is a graded dirt road through private property. Inclement conditions may cause cancellation of the service.
