National Nursing Home Week celebrated

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

We celebrated National Nursing Home Week with a special activity each day. On Sunday afternoon, 19 residents had a Mother’s Day party with various goodies, pink lemonade and poetry. On Monday afternoon, residents launched helium balloons. On Tuesday morning, residents played a new game, Bull’s Eye. On Wednesday afternoon, we had loads of prizes for Bingo. On Thursday, we had a barbecue for residents, family members, volunteers and staff. Thirty- five visitors had a great time and listened to Teense Willford on the guitar and his friend, Jack, on the violin. They gave us some terrific entertainment. Our Dietary Department provided us with a tasty feast. On Friday afternoon, we had lots of money for Bingo. On Saturday, afternoon, residents enjoyed Banana Splits.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Monday afternoon five residents played Crazy Eights. On Wednesday afternoon, 12 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 13 residents played Bingo. Frank Jereb and Carol Higby won Four Corners. Dora Martin, Truth Karstoft, Sunny Behonek, and Frank Jereb won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Connie Hood, Roxie Baldwin, Lila Worden, Tom Mansfield, and Jill Martin. On Saturday afternoon, residents played Blackjack.

Residents enjoyed watching movies during the week. Every evening several residents watched Turner Classic Movies. On Sunday morning, three residents watched the VCR movie, “Support Your Local Gunfighter”. On Tuesday afternoon, five residents watched the VCR movie, “The Black Stallion”. On Saturday morning, residents watched the VCR movie, “How to Marry a Millionaire”.

On Tuesday morning, Pastor Easterling offered Bible Study to five residents. His wife, Debbie, assisted on the guitar.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan gave nine ladies beautiful hairdos, and Brenda Zeiger gave nail care to six residents.

On Friday, four residents had chicken fried steak for Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center.

We wish to thank Candy France and Jill Martin for the financial donations to Bingo. Roxie Baldwin donated candy for Bingo.
