Waddie Love was one of 71 nominees who made it to the final rounds of the Wyoming Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
On March 16, Love, along with 13 other high school football players in Wyoming, received recognition for their high school careers.
“My heart is pumping fast,” Love said after the banquet. “I feel so honored to be here. Everyone has worked so hard to be here.”
Love said he didn’t know what to expect at the banquet, and that it was a huge surprise for him.
One of the surprises included hearing advice from guest speaker Casey Bramlet, a Wheatland graduate who was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2004.
The former National Football League quarterback told the scholarship recipients to be mentors to the younger players.
Love said he took that advice to heart, and will challenge himself to be a mentor to other players.
Love said he was very appreciative of everyone who has supported him. “I can’t explain how thankful I am,” he said. “It’s an overwhelming feeling.”
