Talk Jocks bring home 1A/2A trophy

The Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech and Debate team competed against 30 schools Feb. 1 and 2 in Casper.

The speech team earned a first place trophy in the 1A/2A category.

Amber Adams’ poetry entry “Making Sarah Cry” earned a first place rating in the preliminary round.

The duet team of Becca Treat and Kaylyn Wessel moved into the semifinal round. “They received flowing praise for their rendition of ‘Robin Hood’,” speech coach Brenda Ostendorf said. Treat and Wessel wore matching outfits which also brought additional comments from the judges.

Geoff Page and Colton Woolfolk’s duet was described as flawless and incredible by the judges, Ostendorf said. The duet received severals rankings of ones and twos, which advanced them into the semi-finals as well.

Leam Engle, with his humor entry and Aleck Freeman, with his poetry entry also received advanced rankings during the preliminary round.

Wessel moved into the finals round with her dramatic monologue “Emma and Me.”

The students will compete against as many as 100 students in each category, Ostendorf explained. “The elimination process can be quite exhausting.”

Ostendorf said despite battling flu and colds, the Talk Jocks preservered.

Last weekend, the Talk Jocks traveled to Jackson where Page and Woolfolk earned third place in duet.

Amber Adams advanced to the semi-final round in poetry.

The team as a whole earned a third place trophy.
