Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
Jennifer Morgan’s seven blocks stood in contrast to the Lady Tigers’ lowest game stats of the season in a frustrating 10-43 loss to Little Snake River Valley Friday night.
“We came out slow and struggled all night,” coach Amy Clay said. “We were not aggressive on either end of the floor.”
Ranked fifth in their division, the young Encampment (1-14), (0-5) team couldn’t find any air against the number two LSRV (11-8), (4-2) team.
Adding to Cassidy Little’s 4 points, Morgan, Michelle Hooker and Alyssa Barkhurst each contributed 2.
The Lady Tigers put some growl back into their play against number four Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (3-15), (2-3) on Saturday.
“I told the girls to take it to them and they did,” Clay said.
Morgan continued to guard the basket on Saturday against HEM, racking up five more blocks. Along with Morgan’s high hands, the Lady Tigers’ man-to-man defense snatched a couple steals and came down with twenty-two rebounds.
Encampment’s finesse kept them out of foul trouble and they shot 36 free throws to HEM’s 11, but it wasn’t enough to change the 31-36 outcome.
“We needed to knock down more than we did,” Clay said.
Barkhurst returned to form plunking in 14 points, and Little followed closely with 13. Little also pulled in 12 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers have a couple of days to get ready for homecoming when they will face number three ranked Farson-Eden (9-7), (2-3) Friday at 4 p.m. and number one Cokeville (16-1), (5-0) Saturday at noon. Both are conference match-ups.
